Sissi Chen 茜蒨 is an award-winning director and theatre maker. Her work usually touches on gender politics, diasporic experience, and emotional lives shaped by society. She is interested in bringing theatrical storytelling out of mundane as a way people survive, disguise, desire, and transform.

Sissi is awarded 2026 Immigrant Artist Grant of Rattlestick Theater Global Forms Theatre Festival. Before that, her play Red Threads won the 2024 Immigrants in America Festival presented by Rouge Theatre Festival & RiffRaff NYC.

Recent directing credits include Bodega Cat (2026), True Places Never Are(2025), Red Threads(2024), The President’s Invitation (2024), and Murder Up in the Air (2023).

Sissi also work across Broadway producing, arts education, and international theatre exchange. She has collaborated with organizations like Roundabout Theatre Company, Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts, and Tony Awards China. She co-founded Nomad Theater, a community theatre group that aims to engage mandarin-English speaking audiences in New York City.
